How Dyson’s newest vacuum uses laser to detect hidden dirt

Dyson has just revealed its most powerful cordless vacuum yet and it comes with some spectacular new features.

Having tried and tested the V11 Outsize Pro for ourselves, it's hard to believe that Dyson could improve upon the design.

Determined to up the ante though, the brand has just announced not one, but three new vacuum cleaners, and they are every bit as impressive as you would expect.

Dyson V15 Detect

The most notable of the three is the Dyson V15 Detect, which features a Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head. The precisely-angled laser can be activated to pinpoint dust particles on hard flooring that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.

The anti-static carbon fibre filaments then pick up those microscopic particles, giving you a more thorough clean.

If you're sceptical about the design, you can also see the proof for yourself thanks to an in-built acoustic piezo sensor.

The sensor counts and measures the size of each dust particle it sucks up, displaying the results in real time on the LCD screen.

Similar to the previous V11 range, you can also view the cleaning mode currently in use and the remaining run time featured on the screen.

The V15 Detect also incorporates several of the other best features from the V11 range, including a high torque cleaner head that automatically adjusts across flooring types, three cleaning modes and click-in batteries that offer up to 60 minutes of run-time each.

It also comes with a new anti-tangle hair screw tool that is designed to pick up hair and spiral it into the bin, making it a worthwhile investment for those who often clog up vacuums with their long locks.

Two V15 Detect models will be available from the Australian Dyson online store from 27 May. The first is the Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean, which will be priced at $1,399.

The second is the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute Extra, which is slightly pricier at $1,449, but comes with newly designed HEPA filtration.

    Dyson V12 Detect Slim

If you can't quite justify the price point of the V15, you'll also be able to snap up a more compact version in the form of the V12 Detect Slim.

The V12 will feature all the same technical features as the two V15 models, but will arrive in a lightweight design that is ideal for those with smaller homes.

While a release date is yet to be revealed, we do know that the V12 will be available in both a V12 Detect Slim Total Clean model ($1,199) and a V12 Detect Slim Absolute Extra model ($1,249).

    Dyson Omni-glide

Those who would rather forego the bells and whistles in place of an affordable vacuum model can meanwhile opt for the Dyson Omni-glide.

Priced at just $599, the Omni-glide is set to be one of Dyson's most affordable vacuums to date. According to Dyson, it's also the brand's "slimmest and most manoeuvrable vacuum for hard floors."

While the vacuum isn't engineered for carpets or rugs, it remains a great option for those with hard flooring or for daily spot cleans.

The vacuum pairs Dyson's first omnidirectional soft cleaner head with an articulating neck to enable forwards, backwards and sideways cleaning, in addition to cleaning in tight spaces.

Two motorised soft rollers meanwhile aid the vacuum in picking up everything from fine particles to large debris.

Other key features of the Omni-glide include a hygienic bin ejection mechanism and a power button, which makes a welcome change from Dyson's classic trigger.

Dyson founder and chief engineer, James Dyson, said in a statement, "We're pioneers in the vacuum cleaner industry – we created our cyclone technology, removed the bag, and cut the cord with the introduction of our powerful cord-free machines.

Today, we're introducing a brand new way to clean hard floors with the Dyson Omni-glide vacuum."

The new omnidirectional Fluffy cleaner head is a true testament to our engineering capabilities."

The Dyson Omni-glide will be available from the Australian Dyson online store from 27 May.
