Is ghd’s Unplugged hair straightener better than Dyson’s Corrale?

ghd just revealed its first ever cordless hair straightener – and it's already available for sale.

Ever since Dyson launched its Corrale straightener back in April 2020, we knew it would only be a matter of time before other brands snapped up the idea of a cordless model.

As one of the biggest names in the hair tool space, it's no surprise that ghd is the first to take the challenge.

Announced by the brand today, the Unplugged straightener marks the first ever compact and cordless model by the label, but how does it compare to the Corrale?

ghd Unplugged vs Dyson Corrale

Featuring many of the same functions as the Corrale, the Unplugged offers beauty lovers optimum styling temperature, fast heat up time and a flight-friendly design.

It also claims to leave hair with 65% more shine than traditional devices, which is one of the biggest selling points of Dyson's model.

The real appeal though comes in the form of the price tag which, while still incredibly luxurious at $475, is $224 cheaper than the Corrale's $699 price point.

The Unplugged is also said to be lightweight and small enough to slip inside a handbag, which gives it an advantage over Dyson's standard-sized model.

Despite this, the Unplugged does still fall short of the Corrale in several areas.

Firstly, the 20-minute battery life is less than the Corrale's by a full 10 minutes. While this may not seem overly significant, those with longer locks will definitely notice.

The key difference, though, is in Dyson's innovative flexing plate technology, which allows the Corrale to capture each individual hair strand.

Not only does this technology speed up styling time for the user, but it also allows the straightener to heat hair evenly with less damage.

So, which model is better?

Ultimately, the choice between the Unplugged and the Corrale comes down to both personal preference and budget.

Offering many of the same functions as the Corrale at $224 less, the Unplugged is certainly an appealing alternative to Dyson's model.

It's also more compact and lightweight, which is great news for those who travel often or who only require quick touch ups throughout the day.

However, there is definitely something to be said for Dyson's technology, which makes the Corrale one of the best straighteners currently on the market.

The Corrale also offers an extended battery life, making it more convenient for those with longer or curlier hair.

The ghd Unplugged is available now in 2 colour options of black and white on both the ghd site and in selected stores.

The Dyson Corrale is available on the Dyson site and at several other big name retailers.

Managing director for ghd ANZ, Ludovic Dellazzeri, said in a statement, "We are dedicated to developing pioneering technologies and creating the best-in-class products that tackle consumer and professional stylist needs."

"Our ghd R&D team have developed the latest battery and heat styling technology which allows us to launch Unplugged, a portable cordless styler that delivers the superior performance our tools are known and trusted for, giving consumers and stylists the flexibility to style anywhere, anytime."
