Mouse pads tend to be pretty low on the list when upgrading a PC. I personally spent many years using cheap, flimsy pads before I realised the value of a good-quality mouse surface. Speed and stability can make quite a difference to precision and performance.

Razer has given me reason to rethink my position on mouse pads once again with the Gigantus V2. Why limit the benefits of a good pad to such a small area of your desk? Why not provide more freedom of movement and enhanced stability by creating a pad that covers the entire desk?

It's a good question, and the Gigantus V2 is an even better answer.

  Like most high-end mouse pads, the Gigantus V2 features a plain black surface that blends in well with your average desktop environment. A green trim around the edge adds a little bit of flair to the design and reminds you that yes, this is a Razer product.

  The Gigantus V2 comes in four sizes: medium, large, XXL and 3XL. Medium is roughly the size of a regular mouse pad, while 3XL is big enough to cover an entire desk. I tested the XXL model which, at 94cm x 41cm, definitely earns the "Gigantus" moniker. In fact, calling it a mouse pad at this point no longer seems accurate, seeing as it covered the entire portion of my desk dedicated to both mouse and keyboard.

  Semantics aside, the Gigantus V2 immediately feels like a premium product. It's deceptively dense and heavy, measuring in at 4mm thick for the XXL model. The foam core feels strong and durable yet soft and pliable, treading that fine line between comfort and resilience.

  Textured micro-weave cloth covers the surface of the Gigantus V2. It, too, maintains a delicate balance, minimising friction for smooth mouse movement while retaining enough grip to ensure keyboard stability.

  Despite its sprawling silhouette, the Gigantus V2 is surprisingly portable. Even the XXL model rolls up into a relatively compact tube you can slip into a bag when travelling. How often you'll actually need to take a desk-sized mouse pad with you is another question, but it's nice to have the option there.

  The Gigantus V2 sports a textured surface of micro-weave cloth that Razer positions as "optimised across all mouse sensors" to deliver enhanced precision and responsiveness. That's a bold claim that can't be easily verified, but I can say that all the mice I tested on the Gigantus V2 tracked flawlessly.

  Surface speed is equally impressive. Mouse movement is smooth and swift, with just enough friction to dial in precise adjustments when necessary.

  More performance optimisations are viable with the XXL and 3XL models. Thanks to their larger surface areas, you can reduce the DPI settings of your mouse for finer tracking, compensating for the slower cursor speed by making bigger mouse movements. Alternatively, you can stick with higher sensitivity settings and benefit from having to lift your mouse up less frequently, since it takes far longer to reach the edge of the pad.

  Even when subject to faster, more aggressive mouse movements, the Gigantus V2 remains stable. Its underside is covered in a grippy texture that prevents the bunching and slipping I've encountered with thinner, cheaper mouse pads.

  A less-obvious benefit of the larger Gigantus V2 models is how they enable longer gaming sessions by reducing strain and fatigue. Their greater surface area can provide support to not just your hand, but your wrist and arm as well. It's significantly more ergonomic than resting your wrist on a hard desk, and I've found it to be a comfort I can't go back from.

Should you buy the Razer Gigantus V2?

Prior to testing the Razer Gigantus V2, I had little interest in a super-sized mouse pad. Now, I'm sold on the idea. Having all that extra space for larger mouse movements is freeing. The Gigantus V2 couples that freedom with a speedy surface and a thick core that's both stable and comfortable, making it a top choice for anyone wanting more out of their mouse pad.
