The first of the 5G phones will be here before the end of the month.

Back when Samsung announced the Galaxy S10 series, it also announced its very first 5G phone in the form of the Galaxy S10 5G. It's not just a case of dropping a 5G modem into the existing and very popular Galaxy S10 either, with a larger display, enhanced camera optics and bigger battery going into the new device.

Telstra announced at the same time that it would be the exclusive launch partner for the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, with availability before the middle of the year. What's more, customers who signed up for a plan early enough for the Galaxy S10+ through Telstra would be able to swap out for the Galaxy S10 5G at no additional cost. For those customers, you'll have 21 days from 28 May to opt to take up the Galaxy S10 5G upgrade offer.

If that's what you did, you won't have long to wait, with Samsung announcing local availability for the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G from 28 May through Telstra on contract as well as through its own Samsung stores.

Telstra hasn't announced separate plan pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G just yet, although consumers who did sign up for the bonus S10+ offer early enough shouldn't end up paying more.

Samsung will ship the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G in Australia in 256GB and 512GB variants. If you opt for the 256GB model you'll be able to score it in either Crown Silver or Majestic Black finishes. If you want the 512GB model, it'll only sell here in Majestic Black.

Samsung hasn't announced specific pricing for outright purchase, or indeed if that'll be an option for Australian consumers, so if you're keen on the first 5G phone to land on our shores, it looks like Telstra might be your best early bet.

Telstra's having a busy 5G day, having officially announced availability of the HTC 5G Hub and the first 5G live areas in the nation earlier today. Like the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, that too will be available to consumers from 28 May 2019.
