The Telstra Flip 2 is a phone designed for folks who loved old-school flip phones, such as the iconic Motorola RAZR. It's not built by Telstra, with the Chinese manufacturer ZTE producing it on Telstra's behalf.
The Telstra Flip 2 isn't a smartphone in an apps sense; it's more of a feature phone for those who don't want to bother with apps or other connectivity issues.
Design
2.4-inch display
Retro flip design
Physical number pad
The Telstra Flip 2's design is one that looks back to an earlier time in the evolution of the mobile phone – it's very much a "feature" phone. As the name suggests, it's a flip-up mobile phone designed primarily for calling and texting duties and not much else, with a simple black plastic frame and small 2.4-inch low resolution display.
The reality here is that if all you want a mobile for is for calling and texting, it's certainly going to be enough. If you dislike touchscreen typing, you may find the presence of an old-school full number pad appealing as well.
Camera
Simple 2MP camera unlikely to impress
0.3MP selfie camera won't flatter you either
Back when feature phones were the only phones you could get, mobile photography was in its infancy, and the idea that you could take a photo without requiring film seemed pretty fancy.
That's the era that the Telstra Flip 2's camera phone finds itself in, with a very basic rear 2MP camera and an even more rudimentary front-facing 0.2MP "selfie" camera. On the Telstra Flip 2's low resolution screen you might not tell the difference, but if you sent any MMS messages with pictures in them, your recipients certainly will.
Again, though, this will suit a particular market, but if mobile photography is important to you, the Telstra Flip 2 might not be your best choice.
Performance
4G capable
"Blue Tick" compatible for regional users
Feature phones don't typically need to be fast phones, because they don't have to do all that much. The Telstra Flip 2's Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor is amongst the slower echelon of mobile processors, and the inclusion of just 1GB of user accessible memory is also pretty meagre.
Again though, that's not really the point, because this is definitively the phone for folks who don't want an iPhone to speak of. What is notable is that it's fully 4G compatible, and it's even one of the few phones to gain Telstra's "Blue Tick" certification. This means that it has superior reception in regional and rural areas of Australia, and it's one of Telstra's cheapest phones to offer that.
Battery
1,000mAh removable battery
The Telstra Flip 2's battery only measures in at 1,000mAh, which is on the lower side. Again, though, the lower needs of a feature phone mean that this should be less of a hassle than you might think. Telstra's estimates suggest that it's good for up to 3 hours of talk time on 4G networks, and up to 200 hours of standby time. What's more, it's one of only a very small handful of phones that still feature a removable battery.

Important information about this website
findershopping.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
