You can now enjoy everything from musical chairs to story time with your Google Home speaker.

For most of Australia, it's either school holiday time right now or it's about to be come the end of the week, which means a whole host of slightly bored kids running around the house – and more than likely running you mad along the way.

Google has announced an array of new activities for devices running Google Assistant with a focus on family activities, whether that's simple fun play activities or more structured educational activities.

If you've got a device with Google Assistant, whether that's a smartphone such as the Google Pixel 2 or a smart speaker like the Google Home or Google Home Mini, all you need to do is engage its attention with the usual "OK Google" command, followed by any of the following commands to engage Google's new family activities:
  • "Play Lucky Trivia for Families"
  • "Play Musical Chairs"
  • "Play Musical Statues"
  • "Let's play a game"
  • "Play ABC Behind the News"
  • "Help me with my homework"
  • "Tell me a fun fact"
  • "How do you say "Let's have crêpes for breakfast" in French?"
  • "Let's make ANZAC biscuits"
  • "Play Kinderling Radio"
  • "Read The Complete Adventures of Blinky Bill"*
  • "Tell me a joke"

Google is also promoting the use of Family Link, its account management platform for families to allow children under 13 to access Google Assistant using their own profiles.
