"I completely understand the hype for this primer and will be singing its praises until I'm lowered into the grave."

Primers have always been one of those products that I didn't really get around. There have been many primers that I questioned what exactly they were doing for my makeup. In other words, I didn't notice any difference.

That was basically the opposite of my experience using the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer.

About the product

It was pretty difficult to avoid the good reviews for the Hydro Grip Primer. It featured in basically every beauty TikTok on my For You page.

This primer is designed to sucker punch some life back into your skin. Formulated with aloe water, hyaluronic acid, sweet cherry, and vitamins B3 and B5, this product will hydrate, nourish and replenish your skin giving you the perfect base for your makeup.

It's silicone-free, oil-free formula that goes on clear to work across all skin tones and types, and an absolute lifesaver for those with dry skin like myself. Milk Makeup is also clean and vegan which is huge brownie points in our books.

The Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer retails for $52 for 45ml and $26 for 10ml, and is available to purchase from Sephora.

The review

As I said, I'd seen many reviews on this primer so my expectations were already pretty high. I used 2 pumps as per the instructions and noticed that the primer was also fragrance free.

It's a gel consistency and I applied a thin layer before I started my makeup routine. It also went on really well over my sunscreen. Now, let me tell you, my skin has never looked so dewy before putting on my foundation and I loved it. The thing with dewy skin primers or base products is that it can mean your makeup rubs or wears off quite quickly. This is not the case with this primer.

After leaving the primer on for 1 minute so my skin could soak up its hydration juices, the primer becomes a bit tacky and quite literally grips your makeup to your face. I like to wear light to medium coverage foundation which doesn't have the best lasting time, but with this primer my makeup did not budge all day.

It doesn't change the formula or consistency of your makeup either, but simply sets them in place so they ain't going anywhere.

The final verdict

Honestly, I completely understand the hype for this primer and will be singing it's praises until I'm lowered into the grave.

The formula of this primer is unlike anything I've come across. Milk Makeup has completely filled the brief for a hydrating primer that packs hydration into your skin to give you a radiant base while ensuring your makeup lasts all day long. If you prefer a matte finish then this probably isn't the primer for you.

Whilst I was gifted this product, I would happily spend my money to purchase it again.
