Samsung Australia will have replacement Note 7 stock on 21 September

Customers waiting for replacement Note 7 devices should start getting them quite soon.

Samsung has updated its information around its recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with an advisory note as to when customers who hand back their Note 7 devices can expect new devices in the country.

From 21 September, Note 7 customers should be contacted by their retailer of choice, whether that’s Samsung or one of its carrier partners with the precise details of when they can expect their replacement smartphone. In order for consumers to feel safe with their new devices, they will carry identifying marks on the packaging, in the form of a small black square on the white barcode label, along with a white sticker with a blue letter "S", as well as a specific range of IMEI numbers for the actual handsets. Samsung will maintain an online database of those IMEI numbers so that consumers can feel secure in purchasing new devices that they do actually belong to the new, safe batch of Note 7 handsets.

As a reminder, while the number of instances of Galaxy Note 7 handsets appearing to catch fire in Australia appears relatively low, with only a couple of reported instances, it’s not worth your while holding onto a Note 7 if you are one of the 51,060 consumers who purchased one, due to the risk of, for example, an overnight fire.

If you were keen on the Note 7 but missed out due to the phone going off sale, Samsung advises that it will be back on sale in early October.
