Free-to-air streaming catch-up services continue to spread wider, with the two government broadcasters each hitting a new platform today.

The ABC has announced that it now has a client application for Microsoft’s Xbox One console, available to download from Microsoft today. It’s been a busy week for the iView app team, with the streaming service also launching on Telstra’s Telstra TV set top box just yesterday.

Not to be outdone, the team behind SBS’ On Demand App has released its first application for Apple’s fourth generation Apple TV set top box, bringing access to the SBS On Demand to Apple’s newest set top box. SBS is the first free-to-air broadcaster to deliver a specifically written app for the Apple TV, but we'd expect others to follow in the near future.

Previously you could access SBS On Demand on Apple TV, but only by using Airplay from a secondary iOS device. The fourth generation Apple TV does offer access to channel ten’s Tenplay service, but only via an app written for the previous generation of Apple TV devices.
