5 shows to watch while you wait for Stranger Things season 5
There's a good chance you have finished season 4 of Stranger Things by now. There's not only the excitement factor of watching when it drops, but wanting to avoid spoilers.
If you didn't know, Stranger Things season 4 is on Netflix, and you can watch it there right now.
So, what on earth are you going to watch while waiting for the new season? We dug up 5 shows that are along similar lines. Think mysterious small town goings on, young kids fighting back against powerful forces – that kind of vibe.
Oh, and minor spoilers ahead for Stranger Things season 4 part 1 ahead.
The Twilight Zone
Everything is not as it seems in this anthology series. The reboot of The Twilight Zone in 2019 from Jordan Peele had plenty of sci-fi, mystery and horror elements, just like Stranger Things. Case in point? Check out season 1, episode 4's A Traveler, where a mysterious man's (Steven Yeun from The Walking Dead) arrival at a remote Alaska police station's Christmas party prompts a sergeant to investigate his ulterior motives. There's plenty of mystery similar to Stranger Things season 4, from Hopper in Russia to the new lab.
You can watch The Twilight Zone on Paramount Plus. The service offers a 7-day trial for new users, so you can check it out for no cost. Subscriptions cost $8.99 a month after that. As a bonus you also get the original series which started in 1959, as well as the 1980s reboot.
Wayward Pines
A Secret Service agent goes to Wayward Pines, Idaho, in search of 2 federal agents who have gone missing in the rural town. He soon learns that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive. It's just like trying to escape the Upside Down in Stranger Things.
Catch Wayward Pines on Disney Plus. You can sign up for Disney Plus to access a generous library of TV shows, movies, documentaries, specials and reality TV. Subscriptions to Disney Plus in Australia cost $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year.
Naomi
After a supernatural event occurs in her town, Naomi is left with a lot of questions surrounding her origins. She sets out to discover who she really is and what she can do with a little help from her loved ones. Following a young woman and her hero's journey is very similar to Eleven in Stranger Things, especially in season 4 as she tries to regain her powers.
You can watch Naomi on BINGE and Foxtel Now. Subscriptions start at $10 a month for BINGE and new users get 14 days for free. To watch Naomi on Foxtel Now you only need the basic Essentials pack, which costs $25 a month. New subscribers get a 10-day free trial.
Outer Range
While the cowboy attire might throw you into thinking this is a western, there's much more going on in Outer Range. There's a mystery at the edge of this remote area and the show has plenty of supernatural elements and thrills, just like... Oh, you guessed? Yep, Stranger Things season 4.
To watch Outer Range, you'll need to subscribe to Prime Video. The service is free with Amazon Prime and new subscribers get a 30-day free trial. After that, it's $6.99 a month.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
A bunch of high school kids fighting supernatural forces? Sound familiar? Thought so. Buffy and friends fight off foes just like Dustin, Nancy and company in Stranger Things.
You can find Buffy The Vampire Slayer on Disney Plus. Subscriptions to Disney Plus in Australia cost $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year. The platform doesn't offer a free trial at the moment, but there will be plenty of value on there with over 3,000 titles currently available.
