Because skincare is a journey, not a destination.

There is no such thing as "perfect skin". I know! Wild concept, right? But seriously, in a world of filters, many of us are no longer attracted to skincare brands that use poreless airbrushed images and promise products that'll cure your acne, do your taxes and revive your love life. Instead, we're all about brands that offer results while embracing stretch marks, zits, fine lines and other so-called imperfections that make us human.

So with that in mind, we've decided to shine a spotlight on some of our fave brands that understand that skincare is an ongoing journey that is different for each person. Put down the Instagram filter and get into it.

1. ZitSticka

Australian brand ZitSticka combines dermatological science and technology to create products that focus on progress rather than perfection. Its KILLA microdart targets early-age zits, HYPERFADE will help shoo away dark spots after a pimple has run its course and SKIN DISCIPLINE is a daily supplement that's proven to reduce common acne within 12 weeks.

2. Glow Recipe

Glow Recipe doesn't retouch its imagery and preaches that skin can be healthy even when it's experiencing breakouts and hyperpigmentation. Its Avocado Ceramide Recovery serum uses 5 skin-mimicking ceramides to strengthen the skin barrier and reduce redness over time. Meanwhile, the new Pink Dream Body Cream can help soothe psoriasis and give your skin a little smooch of moisture.

3. Frank Body

Australian brand encourages babes to focus on using natural ingredients and embrace the skin they're in. For example, its iconic coffee scrub buffs old skin cells to help make them look less visible, rather than promising to zap them away completely.

In the words of the Insta-famous brand itself: "My mission has been the same from day one: make all babes feel confident to shake it proudly."

5. Cocokind

Cocokind isn't afraid to shout from the rooftops that our skin insecurities – I'm looking at you, texture, scars and pores – are indeed normal.

In its endeavour to normalise real skin in the beauty industry, the brand has published research that found that 77% of its customers said they experience stretch marks, 66% get body acne and 70% rock cellulite. It even just published an "all skin is normal" filter on Instagram with no skin-altering or feature-morphing effects.
