Cooking competition series The Great Australian Bake Off returns on Foxtel this January for season 5 (6 overall, but the first season was on Nine). We bet it will be quite the heartwarming adventure.

This time around, 12 contestants are lining up to take the crown as the ultimate Star Baker. Ready to showcase their incredible kitchen skills and ingenuity, they come from different backgrounds, ages and culinary experience.

However, the 1 thing they have in common is their undeniable passion for baking. Follow their journey as they set off to bake Australia a better place.

When does The Great Australian Bake Off come out?

The new season of The Great Australian Bake Off premieres on Thursday, 27 January.

How to watch The Great Australian Bake Off in Australia

You can follow this season of The Great Australian Bake Off with Foxtel. Catch episodes Thursdays on the LifeStyle channel or watch on demand. LifeStyle is part of the basic Foxtel Plus channel pack.

To celebrate the show's return, LifeStyle launched The Great Bake Off Pop-Up channel, available at 6am from 19-27 January on channel 128. Access it to watch episodes from various local productions like The Great British Bake Off, The Great Canadian Bake Off, The Great Kiwi Bake Off or The Great Kenyan Bake Off.

Alternatively, the series will be available to stream with Foxtel Now. LifeStyle is included in the Essentials channel pack, which is $25 a month. New users get a 10-day free trial.

Unfortunately, the show isn't available on BINGE. Still, there's a loophole – as long as you're fine with watching each episode live. The Great Australian Bake Off preview

In season 5, 12 bakers will be donning their aprons to take on 30 fun challenges. Over the course of 10 episodes, viewers can tune in to assess the contestants' baking prowess, creativity and skill. Maggie Beer and Matt Moran return as judges, while Claire Hooper and Mel Buttle will host the beloved series.

"The 12 bakers are a group of home baking enthusiasts, from a 19-year-old disability worker to our 62-year-old grandmother who has lost her sense of taste and smell. The bakers range from diverse backgrounds, including Zimbabwe, Laos, Afghanistan, Indonesia and Torres Strait Islands with occupations ranging from a lawyer, drama and English high school teacher, a doctor, physiology lecturer to a female retired Navy vet who specialised in electronic weapons," Foxtel revealed in a statement.

The Bake Off franchise kicked off in 2010 with The Great British Bake Off, which quickly became a ratings phenomenon and keeps going strong to this day. The format has been produced locally in countries all over the world, including Australia.
