Google will unveil the Pixel 7 and a smattering of other tech during an event early Friday morning.

Google is keeping up a hectic release schedule in 2022 with a hardware launch event.

There's plenty we already know about what we'll be seeing, with the Pixel 7 line and Pixel Watch all but confirmed to be the show's centrepieces.

Here's how you can watch Google's Pixel 7 event, plus what we expect to see.

When is Google's Pixel 7 event?

Google's Pixel 7 event will take place on Friday 7 October at 1am AEDT.

How to watch Google's Pixel 7 event

The event will be broadcast live on the Google Store website.

For a taste of the show's format, you can catch a replay of last year's event below.

What to expect

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

Google Pixel 7

Google hasn't been shy at all about showing off these new phones.

They were first confirmed during a presentation at Google I/O back in May.

Google showed off a design highly reminiscent of the Pixel 6 generation, down to the number of cameras on each phone. (2 on the base model, 3 on the Pro.)

The devices will run on the highly touted Tensor G2 chip, which Google claims will offer serious boosts to media, speech recognition and other tasks.

Certain leaks have deflated these claims, suggesting only minor improvements in key areas like graphics and power efficiency.

The cameras of the devices will reportedly also be standing pat. On the plus side, the price will apparently also remain the same – $999 for the base model, $1,299 for the Pro.

If leaks are to be believed, these phones won't have much to offer over the Pixel 6 line.

The good news is that we loved the Pixel 6, so unless you already own one the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are worth consideration. The Australian Google Store already shows off these phones, so an Australian release is assured.

Google Pixel Watch

If you're feeling let down by the reports of the Pixel 7 line, the Pixel Watch should offer more excitement.

Google's first official smartwatch should strongly resemble a Fitbit given the close relationship between the 2 companies.

It will also be very exciting to see Google's WearOS running on first-party hardware. Expect impressive integration of Google Pay, Maps and Assistant.

Leaks based on a prototype left in a restaurant suggest health-tracking features including heart rate, blood oxygen and ECG monitoring.

Unfortunately, some leaks have indicated a "limited release" for the Google Pixel Watch. Given Google's history of withholding products Down Under, it seems possible Australia will be excluded, at least from the wearable's initial release.

According to that same leak, the Watch is expected to be priced between US$300 and US$400 (~$460–$615).

Other reveals

Earlier this week, Google unveiled a new Nest Doorbell with an improved camera and the Nest Wi-Fi Pro router with Wi-Fi 6E functionality.

Google will surely take the opportunity to expand on these products in Friday's presentation, and possibly reveal even more.

The Australian availability of these products is still a question mark.
