The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are set to deliver 18 days of competition across 32 sports and 329 gold medal events. That translates to over 3,800 hours of live sports action.Here's everything you need to know about Paris 2024.
When do the Paris Olympics start?
The Games will burst into life when the opening ceremony gets underway on Friday 26 July. Competition then rages on until the closing ceremony on Sunday 11 August.
The fight for Olympic gold has actually already started with events taking place from July 24.
It is the third time Paris has hosted the Games, also staging the competition back in 1900 and 1924.
What is the time difference between Paris and Australia?
Prepare for bleary eyes. Unlike the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which played out in Australian prime time, Paris is 8 hours behind Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Hobart, 7 and half hours behind Adelaide and Darwin and 6 hours behind Perth.
To put that into perspective, the opening ceremony begins at 4:24am (AEST) on Saturday, 27 July.
The first Australian athletes in action are our men's rugby sevens team who face Samoa on July 24 at 11:30pm AEST.

How to watch the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in Australia
Channel 9 holds the broadcast rights for the Paris games in Australia. The network will be spreading action across its main channel, plus 9GEM.
Allison Langdon, James Bracey, Todd Woodbridge, Leila McKinnon, Dylan Alcott, Eddie McGuire, Sarah Abo and Karl Stefanovic will lead the coverage live from Paris.
The Games will also be streamed on 9Now which is free to join.
You can also watch on Stan Sports, which costs $15 a month on top of your existing Stan subscription.
How many stadiums are being used at Paris 2024?
Paris 2024 will host events at 35 venues across Paris and Greater Paris. Notable locations for events include the Champ de Mars Arena, Château de Versailles, Grand Palais and the newly built Eiffel Tower Stadium located in the Champ de Mars.
The opening and closing ceremonies will be held on the Seine River and Stade de France, respectively.

There are 2 new sports – breaking (AKA breakdancing) and kayak cross.
Karate, softball and baseball have all been dropped from the 2024 Olympic Games.

What do we know about 2024 Olympic medals?
A total of 329 medal events will take place over 16 action-packed days. The biggest day of the competition is Saturday, 10 August with 39 gold medal events scheduled. Athletics have the most events of any sport, with a whopping 144 golds up for grabs.Designed by LVMH jeweller Chaumet, each medal for the Games has been set with a piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower.
Medals are 85 millimetres in diameter and 9.2mm thick. IOC guidelines state gold medals should contain a minimum of 6 grams of pure gold (the bulk of gold medals are made from silver.) Approximately 30,000 medals have been made since the first Olympic Games in 1896.
How many Australians are competing in Paris?
Australia has named a team of 460 athletes competing in the 2024 Olympic Games. It's the third-largest Australian team sent to an overseas Olympics, behind Tokyo 2020 (486) and Athens 2004 (482).
Australia's flag bearers for the opening ceremony will be announced Wednesday night on 24 July.
Australia has competed in every Summer Olympics collecting a chest-beating 170 gold, 180 silver and 216 bronze medals along the way, for a grand total of 566 medals.
Surprisingly, our best Olympics medal performance was not Sydney, where Australia claimed 16 gold. This was bested at Athens 2004 and Tokyo 2020, where we collected 17 gold apiece. (Blame Pieter van den Hoogenband.)
Australia finished 6th in the medal table at the last Summer Olympics in Tokyo, grabbing 17 gold, 7 silver and 22 bronze. The USA topped the table with 39 gold, 41 silver and 33 bronze.

More than 10,500 athletes representing 206 countries will take part in Paris 2024.

Torch relay
The Olympic torch relay will soon complete its 68-day journey across France for the official lighting ceremony. The epic journey included jaunts through many historical sites including the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Palace of Versailles and the Lascaux caves. It will arrive in Paris on 26 July.

Los Angeles has the games in 2028 then it's off to Brisbane Australia in 2032.
