As the title suggests, this HBO series follows a couple going through a long, drawn-out divorce. Sarah Jessica Parker plays Frances Dufresne, a married woman who has an affair. Her hapless husband Robert is portrayed by Thomas Haden Church. When the affair is discovered, they decide to split up.

The series then follows their relationship as they try to come to terms with the separation and figure out what happens next. The cast also includes Molly Shannon, Talia Balsam, and Tracy Letts.

The show’s dark humour and the chemistry between the characters really make Divorce stand out from the crowd. Both Parker and Church give stellar performances, aided by the solid supporting cast. While the series isn’t laugh-out-loud funny, it’s a smart look at how a relationship between a divorcing couple evolves, especially when kids are involved. Turns out, there’s plenty of wry humour in domestic turmoil.

Divorce received positive reviews upon its release, with critics especially praising Season 2 due to its lighter, but witty tone.
