How to bulk-buy groceries through Woolworths’ PFD partnership

Woolworths and PFD Food Services

Woolworths has partnered with PFD Food Services to deliver bulk-buy food orders to business customers. While nominally a B2B service, the scheme could soon be extended to families. Here's what you need to know.

Woolworths has announced a new partnership with the Australian food services supplier PFD in a bid to meet the surge in demand for online food delivery.

Currently, the service is restricted to Woolworths' business-to-business (B2B) customers, which includes day care centres, schools, disability services and nursing homes. However, Woolworths has indicated that households could also be granted access to the service.

"Due to the nature of PFD's offering, B2B customers will be serviced first, with the potential for large household customers to access the products via Woolworths online down the track," Woolworths explained in a statement.

Woolworths was unable to provide Finder with a specific time frame. In the meantime, you can access a range of discounted food and drink via our coupons page.

Why is this happening?

Woolworths' normal delivery operations are currently suspended in multiple suburbs due to the coronavirus pandemic. While it does offer an $80 Basics Box to most locations in Australia, this option is only available to Priority Assistance customers, which includes the elderly, people with disabilities and anyone who is required to self-isolate.

How does it work?

When Woolworths B2B customers log in to woolworths.com.au, they will now see a PFD banner at the top of the site. (The banner is only visible to logged-in customers with a registered ABN. General online customers won't be able to see it.)

From there, you can click through to the PFD products portal and make your selections.

How long does delivery take?

According to Woolworths, PFD Food Services will pack and deliver the order within three days.

What products can you order?

Woolworths told Finder that the available PFD items will include "a selected range of bakery, freezer, meat, poultry, seafood and pantry staples".

PFD's online product range has sections dedicated to chips, frozen vegetables, drinks and beverages, dairy products, grain-based staples, cakes, poultry, finger food and condiments. In other words, it has everything you'd expect to find in a cafeteria or kiosk.
