The farewell to warmer days is tough. It's a bittersweet time of year and there's no sugarcoating it.

But the change of season also signals a few months of cosiness and comfort ahead, and you can look forward to switching up your wardrobe for something a little more... put together. Because let's be honest, winter dressing takes a minute or two extra to achieve the polished "I got this" vibe.

If you need an extra hand, we've done the hard work for you and rounded up a list of the hottest trends we're going to be wearing this season to keep warm and look good.

Biker Jacket / Moto Jacket

Think oversized motocross styles and black biker jackets. Leather is the key jacket for winter 23. Wear it over jeans, with tailored slouchy suit pants, or style it back with a simple singlet underneath or a slip dress for a night out. Try the leather biker with an oversize shirt tucked out and a mini or midi skirt. Or you could even try leather on leather with the jacket done up, as recently seen on a number of runways. This look has been spotted on key influencers like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber as well as on runways, including Celine, Coach, Gucci, Iceberg and Isabel Marant, just to name a few.

Matching Sets

The matching set trend continues through winter; think either printed shirts with matching printed pants or knit crops with skirt combos. Born from our love of wanting to stay comfy over covid, we've all decided we like this look and so it continues. Plus it's a super easy way to get ready as the outfit is done for you. Style the pieces together or mix and match them with other pieces in your wardrobe. Add tall boots to a mini skirt, chunky flats to a midi skirt or a heel to a dressy combo.

Shop this trend:

The Slip Dress

The bias cut slip dress has made its way into our wardrobes again, easy to wear back with a blazer and also cool if it has a touch of lace on the bodice of the dress. Style it back with boots or sneakers for a more casual street style look, or with a heel for dinner. The best jacket to wear back with the slip dress is a blazer for that more classic look or a moto jacket or bomber jacket for a more low key street style look.

Shop this trend:

Cargo pants and Utility style pieces

Utility style pocket detailing on your pieces and simple minimalistic styles in a neutral colour palette are a go-to this season. The cargo pants don't have to be casual- they can be dressed up with a heel and matching suit jacket or a shirt and knit. Style this look back with quilted slides or boots and a designer cross body bag. If you prefer skirts, go for a midi skirt with the oversize utility pockets to tap into the trend. Utility styling can also be seen across denim pieces this season with matching utility style shirts and jeans.

Shop this trend:

Skirts: Mini and Midi

While the mini skirt has been having a moment for the last year, midi skirts are trending as an alternative length for winter 23. A classic denim midi skirt would be my pick for casual weekend style while a silk or knit midi skirt is a great workwear style. Style back with tall knee high boots and a sweater or top. A crop jacket also complements a midi skirt well. If you're still a fan of the mini, it's the short, wrap asymmetrical mini that you need to have on rotation.

Shop this trend:

Shades of Lavender and Blue

The colour palette for this winter is lavender and blues. Lilac is perfect for those who love a pastel, while for blues you can opt for either cobalt blue or pastel blues.

Shop this trend:

Soft Tailoring

The season of the pant suit continues with matching sets of suit jacket and pants or sleeveless vest and pant set. Pants are wide legged and slouchy or straight leg and jackets are tailored but slightly oversize or cropped. Fabrics are lighter weight and not as stiff as a corporate suit, making them great to wear with sneakers and slides or a more casual kitten heel. For a jacket over your suit set, try a trench.

Shop this trend:

Sheers, Mesh and Cutaway tops

Coming into winter, the long sleeve top is revamped with mesh, sheer fabrics and interesting cutaways. Teamed back with pants or skirts, the long sleeve top is the perfect transeasonal layering piece.

Shop this trend:

Textured and Open hole knits

Open hole knitwear or chunky textured knitwear adds a new dimension to the norm, and elevates this winter staple. Wear over a singlet or bodysuit or midi skirts. Add a trench, bomber or biker jacket over the top.

90s keeps on giving

The 90s silhouette with crop and low waisted pant, skirt or jean still reigns for winter 23. Whilst the whole Y2K hair and makeup has settled down, the apparel seems here to stay, for a bit at least. Think vintage style logo tops or caps and slouchy jeans and sneakers, tie up tops and cardigans, jumpsuits, denim, lace singlets, bodices or corset style tops, sports brands mixed in with high end fashion brands and fabrics like silk, mesh and knits.

Shades of brown

There's no denying that the colour of the season is brown - dark brown, light brown, it's all about the neutral tones!

If you want to ease into the trend, opt for a cute brown sweater or shoulder bag. But if you're ready to jump all in, we recommend putting together an outfit made up entirely of neutral tones - it looks so effortless and chic.

Where to shop the trend:

Puffy Sleeves

Puffy sleeves have been popular before (both in the summer and winter), but thanks to TV shows like Bridgerton, they're still sticking around.

You've got the option to play around with different fabrics, texture and colours, and they look super flattering on all body shapes and sizes.

Where to shop the trend:

Chunky Boots

Chunky boots are back and better than ever - they're featured on the feet of all your favourite influencers and bloggers.

They can look a little intimidating for some, but at least they're comfortable. If you're keen to invest in a pair that you'll keep for years and years, you cannot go wrong with a classic pair of Dr Martens.

Where to shop the trend:

Leather is everywhere this season - and we're not just talking about your classic biker jackets and boots. This season, we are loving leather coats, blazers, pants, skirts and more.

Now is the time to really play around with the fabric and experiment with different colours and finishes.

Where to shop the trend:

A staple in your workwear wardrobe this winter, blazers can easily dress up any outfit and make you look super fashionable and on-trend.

Of course, you don't have to go crazy with a bold pink colour. Take your pick from different patterns and more neutral and wearable tones.

Where to shop the trend:

Sweater Vests

One of the newer winter fashion trends that we're very keen to try is the sweater vest.

We all know that winter fashion is about layering - and this is one of the best layering pieces to invest in. Chuck a crisp white shirt underneath and throw on a coat over the top for those chillier days.

Where to shop the trend:

Another fashion trend that's come to fruition thanks to Bridgerton is corsets.

Now you may be thinking - how can I wear something like this in winter? Similar to sweater vests, corsets make a great layering piece and can make it look like you actually tried putting an outfit together. Plus, they look super sexy and flattering on all body shapes.

Where to shop the trend:

Cosy loungewear

While things may slowly be going back to normal in Australia, that doesn't mean the cosy loungewear sets are going anywhere. Comfort is key with this trend, and thankfully, you can dress it up or down.

Shop all kinds of styles from most major retailers. Take your pick from minimal colour ways, bold hues, printed graphics and unique textures.

Where to shop the trend:

Puffer jackets

If you struggle with the cold, invest in a good quality puffer jacket. You can opt for a classic black style that's super easy to wear, or you can go bold with a brightly coloured or textured style.

Whether you like it or not, flares - and all types of baggy jeans for that matter - are in and they're not going anywhere.

If you're hesitant to try the full-on 70s bellbottoms, opt for flares that are slightly straighter. You'll be surprised by how flattering a pair of flares can be if you get the right cut.

If you can't decide whether you're hot or cold, allow us to introduce you to the shacket.

It's a shirt and jacket hybrid, and will fit into your transeasonal wardrobe seamlessly. There's a number of different styles on the market, including coloured, printed, longline and more.

Where to shop the trend:

Shades of green

Green is another trendy colour of the season, and there's a lot of variety to experiment with. You can opt for deep, rich tones or something more subtle like sage.

These colours suit just about everyone - it's great on dark skin, pale skin, blondes and brunettes. Plus, it's adds some nice colour to your winter wardrobe that's probably full of black.

Where to shop the trend:

Checkered prints

Every blogger, influencer and fashionable celeb is rocking checkered print and we are so happy to see it. It looks effortlessly chic and is surprisingly super easy to work with.

Blazers are the easiest pick - but if you're feeling bold, why not bring out your inner Cher Horowitz and try this trend in a matching set?
