The Winners: Best TV Brands 2025/26

The 65-inch TV has replaced the 55-inch model as the new normal for Australian living rooms. It offers significantly more screen real estate for 4K movies and sports, yet remains affordable enough for most households.

We surveyed thousands of Australians to find out which brands they trust to fill this centerpiece role in their homes.

Based on the 2025 Finder Retail Awards, here is how Australian consumers rated the top TV brands across the five key decision categories.

Most loved TV brand

This category measures overall customer satisfaction and emotional connection to the brand. It answers the question: "Do you love this product?"

Things to consider when buying one of the best 65-inch TVs

The 65-inch TV is now the standard size for Australian homes. It strikes the perfect balance: large enough to provide a cinematic experience in a lounge room, but not so physically dominant that it requires structural reinforcement of your walls. However, jumping up to this size does require some planning.

Viewing distance is critical

Many people worry that 65 inches is too big, but with modern 4K resolution, you can sit surprisingly close to the screen without seeing pixels. Ideally, you should aim for a distance of 2.5 metres to 3 metres.

Motion handling for sports and action

When you enlarge a screen, you also enlarge its flaws. Motion blur that was invisible on a smaller 50-inch TV can become obvious and distracting on a 65-inch panel, particularly during fast-paced footy matches or action movies.

For a 65-inch TV, we strongly recommend looking for a panel with a 100Hz or 120Hz refresh rate. Budget TVs often stick to 50Hz/60Hz, which can result in a stuttering or "jerky" picture when the action speeds up.

Furniture and stand width

This is the most common trap buyers fall into. Unlike older TVs that had a central pedestal stand, most 65-inch TVs use two feet positioned at the far edges of the screen to support the weight.

A 65-inch TV is roughly 145cm wide. If your entertainment unit is only 120cm wide, the TV feet will not fit. Before you buy, measure your cabinet width. If your furniture is too narrow, look for models that specifically feature a Central Stand (like some Hisense and Sony models) or be prepared to buy a universal VESA pedestal stand separately.

Reflection handling

A 65-inch screen is essentially a large black mirror. If your living room has windows opposite the TV wall, reflections can be a major issue during the day.

If you have a bright room, Mini-LED (Samsung Neo QLED, Hisense U Series) is generally the better choice. These screens can get incredibly bright, punching through the glare. OLED screens look incredible in the dark, but their glass screens can be quite reflective, though newer models like the Samsung S95F have an anti-reflective coating that helps manage this. If you want OLED in a bright room, look for models with matte coatings or high-brightness panels (MLA or QD-OLED).

Gaming ports (HDMI 2.1)

If you plan to connect a PS5 or Xbox Series X, pay close attention to the ports. You need HDMI 2.1 slots to get 4K at 120Hz. While many premium 65-inch TVs have four of these ports, some mid-range models only have two.

The catch is that one of those two ports is often the "eARC" port required for your soundbar. This leaves you with only one high-speed port for your consoles. If you own multiple consoles, look for a TV with four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports (like LG or Samsung high-end models) to avoid swapping cables.

Getting it home

Do not underestimate the size of the box. A boxed 65-inch TV will not fit in a standard sedan or even many small hatchbacks. The box must be transported upright to avoid cracking the panel. Unless you have a large SUV, ute, or van, we highly recommend paying for delivery. The small delivery fee is worth it to avoid cracking your new screen before you even get it inside.
