Edit top picks

As one of the most popular consoles around, the Nintendo Switch can be difficult to nab a bargain on. The price point has more or less stayed the same since it was first launched and retailers rarely offer significant discounts on it.

If you are looking to break down the cost though, you can pick up one of the consoles by using Afterpay. Rather than paying upfront, the below retailers will let you buy your Switch now and pay it off later in four equal installments, interest-free.

Different Nintendo Switch models explained

Picture not described

Like any piece of tech worth its salt, the Nintendo Switch has a number of different models for you to wrap your head around. Let's run them down so you know exactly what you're buying.

Nintendo Switch

The base model of Nintendo Switch is your bog standard edition. It can connect to your TV and play games on it, or be used in handheld mode. It features a 6.2 inch LCD touch screen.

Nintendo Switch OLED

The Nintendo Switch OLED edition distinguishes itself with its screen. It boasts a 7 inch OLED touch screen. For those not in the know, OLED screens are considered by many tech geeks to be the best on the market. Unlike LCD screens, OLED varieties do not feature a backlight. Instead, each pixel acts as a light source unto itself.

This leads to superior picture quality, especially when it comes to representing blacks. While LCD screens must shutter the backlight to create blacks, OLED screens simply turn off pixels to produce a pure black.

Obviously, you'll only get to enjoy this premium screen quality if you're using the switch in handheld mode. So if you mainly use the TV to play your switch, the OLED model probably isn't worth your money.

The OLED model also features 64GB of storage compared to the 32GB of the standard model.

Nintendo Switch Lite

The model that is most distinct from its cousins is the Lite edition. The Lite edition is essentially the handheld mode of the standard Switch boiled down into its own console. It cannot be plugged into a TV.

That means it can only be used to play games that support handheld mode, unless you purchase external joy-cons which can be used to connect wirelessly to the device. You'll also need to buy a charging device for the joy-cons.

The Nintendo Switch Lite features a 5.5 inch LCD touch screen and 32GB of storage.

Nintendo Switch Price

  • The Nintendo Switch standard edition has a RRP of $469.95
  • The Nintendo Switch OLED edition has a RRP of $539.95
  • The Nintendo Switch Lite has a RRP of $329.95
