What's the best website for cheap holidays?

Don't forget to check out our travel deals as we cover hundreds of deals across our 10 categories.

We recommend checking out any of the following sites to ensure you get the best deals for your next trip.

  • Wotif: Wotif is a comprehensive travel booking site. It offers holiday packages, including accommodation and flights, from one-night to week-long stays. You can search the full list of packages by trip length, star rating, flight class and travel dates.
  • Agoda: Search for great flight and hotel deals on Agoda. We love the "EasyCancel" badge that highlights hotels with free cancellation up to the day before check-in.
  • HotelsCombined: HotelsCombined is a powerful search engine that looks for stays across numerous booking sites in just a few seconds. You can also look for flights, tours and day trips. We love its "Trips" feature, which lets you import all your travel bookings into one place in their app – great for the busy traveller on the go.
  • Expedia: Expedia features flight and hotel packages across Australia with return fares included and stays discounted from as low as 15% all the way up to 27% off.
  • Scoopon: Book holiday packages and hotel deals with Scoopon for up to a huge 58% off. Its seven-day change of mind guarantee provides a full refund as long as the cancellation is made more than 21 days prior to check-in.

It's also worth checking out: Booking.com, Hotels.com, Lastminute.com and Trafalgar Tours.

What's the cheapest month to go on holiday?

Each country or region has its off-season and that is what you'll want to aim for. According to Skyscanner's 2019 report, January, February and September came in as the biggest savers. Flights were also found to be cheapest on a Tuesday compared to other days of the week.

In most cases, you'll find prices are based on weather and the main attractions you'll find at that destination. Beaches, skiing and hiking destinations are more expensive when the weather is right for those activities.

When is the cheapest time to book a holiday?

The cheapest time to book depends on the time you want to travel. If you're planning to take a family vacation during the school holidays, why not start planning now? The early bird gets the worm and early-bird savings.

You can usually score a great deal for future travel in end of financial year sales at the end of June or specific sale days such as Black Friday (in November) or Boxing Day (in December).

Plan to travel to destinations in their off-season. It's often the best time to visit money-wise. Aim to lock in your holiday at least three months in advance.

How can I find the cheapest holiday deals?

Few things in life come for free or without putting in a little effort. Do your research ahead of time and compare multiple destinations, booking sites and travel dates.

It might help to pick one or two places you really want to go and set aside a weekly time to go through a few sites and note down the prices.

Are vacation packages worth it?

Holiday packages can absolutely be worth it. They can save you the time and stress of managing bookings across multiple websites and are generally cheaper than booking your flights, accommodation and tours separately.

For example, we found a one-night stay at Hyatt Regency Brisbane with return flights from Sydney to Melbourne with Wotif.com for $372.09.

Booked separately with the same details, the flights came to $175.74 and the room to $246.01 for a total of $421.75. Booking the package deal puts you ahead by 13%.

Some companies also throw in room upgrades, wine to welcome you and other bonuses you simply miss out on by booking everything yourself.

We suggest you always compare to make sure you're getting the best deal you can as this may not always be the case.
