How does this sale compare to previous years and other sales?

This year's sale is a little pricier than previous years – though that can be attributed to the rising cost of living and increased fuel costs.

In 2021, Virgin Australia's Boxing Day sale offering was up to 35% off fares with prices from $48.

In 2019 and 2020, the airline brought $75 fares to the party, and you could nab $79 flights each way in 2018. Bear in mind that these were full-service fares as Virgin Australia only introduced Lite seats in 2021.

Compared to other sales in 2024, Virgin Australia's Boxing Day sale is right up there with the best, mirroring its Black Friday deal which had up to 30% off seats and prices from $55.
