What stores will have New Year's Day sales?
Unlike Boxing Day, a lot of retail stores choose not to operate on New Year's Day, which limits the number of sales available. For example, Westfield shopping centres in NSW tend to stay closed.
There are exceptions to the rule, however. For example, Target, Kmart and Bunnings will continue to trade on January 1, so pop in and see if you can snag yourself a bargain.
NYD shopping tips
- Shop online. As discussed, many physical stores will be shutting their doors for the public holiday. To get the best bargains, your best bet is to shop online.
- Stick to a budget. Don't get caught overspending. Set and maintain your spending limit to avoid post-sale regrets.
- Prep Your wishlist. Avoid impulse buys by researching beforehand. How much do the items you want usually retail for?
- Focus on the right products. Zoom in on items you missed out on during Christmas. If you've stocked up on apparel and fragrances, pivot to electronics or beauty items.
