What to consider when buying a monitor on Black Friday (28 November)?
Size
Size is typically going to be the driving factor when choosing a new monitor. Big screens are great for watching movies, playing games or increasing your efficiency by cramming more windows into your field of view. Screen size has to be a balancing act, though, since most desks aren't going to accommodate a massive 32-inch monitor without displacing the rest of your peripherals and paraphernalia. It's also worth noting that the larger the screen, the less sharp the image will be. A 1080p image might look crisp on a 24-inch display, but blown up on a 32-inch monitor it might get a little fuzzy.
Resolution
This is an especially important factor for gaming, video editing and other tasks involving high-resolution images and video. Odds are you won't find many monitors sporting resolutions below 1080p these days, but there are plenty that offer 1440p and 4K resolutions for a sharper, more-detailed picture. The caveat here is that higher resolutions are going to require more-powerful hardware, especially if you plan on playing games above 1080p or multi-tasking multiple programs on the same display. Make sure your PC has a sufficiently-powerful graphics card before dropping the cash on a high-end 4K monitor.
Refresh rate
High refresh rate monitors have become quite popular in recent years. The refresh rate dictates how many times a monitor displays a new image every second to create the illusion of motion: a 60Hz display is capable of displaying 60 images a second, whereas a 120Hz display can display 120 images a second. Higher refresh rates lead to smoother motion and, for gaming, a more responsive experience. Like resolution, however, you'll need a powerful PC to deliver stable gaming performance at higher refresh rates, so keep that in mind as you ogle those fancy 144Hz monitors.
